THE ARTFUL DODGER

Meet the new love of my life---The Artful Dodger---my new wonderful Golden Retriever!!!! Talk about that line "Good things happen to those who wait." This could not be truer than if it had been staged.

He is a little over one year old and tho he is a male and I wanted a female, he is such a softie and a lover that I love him anyway. He is all trained in all ways, beautifully behaved and beautiful to look at and all he wants is to love you. We have had him only three days and he is like we have had him forever. He is the darling of the resthome. My husband with Alzheimer's loves him.

There were many things against my getting a dog at this stage of my life and I don't know how long Jim will be with me to take care of him. I do not anticipate any problem with that, however. Dodger is a puppy from the owner's dog. His father lives there still and an older brother from previous litter. That he was brought up with love and gentle discipline transfers to make him into a fantastic member of this household.
I figured that it was important to my quality of life to have a dog that I could love now. I have been worrying and taking care of my husband's problems to improve his quality of life and so I decided the other night while talking to my neighbor--What about mine? And then almost the next day this deal falls into our lap. How about that?

Bernie, Congratulations on the new member of your Family! What a handsome Dodger! I am very partial to Goldens. Our sweet Breezy was the light of our lives for 12 1/2 years - she died about 5 years ago. I still miss her and also miss having a doggy pal. Enjoy your boy - he looks easy to love!

A new dog to love!
If, after only three days, you fit together so well, this is going to be a long love affair!

I'm so jealous! I adore Golden Retrievers. One day, when I have tired of city life, I'll have one.

Oh Bernie he looks gorgeous. I love dogs so much, but they don't fit for me with the kangaroos, so have my "dog-like" indoor cats as substitutes and a kangaroo that lies on my doormat so I'm not complaining. I wish you many happy days with him, I'm sure he'll bring you lots of joy.

Dodger will benefit just as much as you, from this wonderful pairing, Bernie! A mutual give and receive situation!

I'm so happy for you, Bernie! There's nothing that lower's the blood pressure and brings a feeling of inner calm like having a dog or cat by your side! I'm glad this opportunity came your way, and I look forward to all the blog fodder he will provide!

Oh, Bernie... congratulations on your new family member!!! I remember your post on the dogs you've had... and how much you wanted a dog... specifically a Golden if I remember correctly! I'm so happy for you! I still don't have one... but I'll keep trying to remember "good things come to those who wait..."

He is beautiful. And Goldens are the prettiest ever. Hope he does well on a leash for you. Perhaps you can take him over to some soccer fields or something so he can run like the wind. And to the lake to swim.

I'm so happy that you have such a cute and nice doggie now. I loved your post about the doggies that you used to have and was hoping that you'd eventually get another one. Goldens are my second favourite. I have a cocker spaniel who is 12 but she has alot of health problems. I love her so much.

Ah, Bernie! Your life has been blessed by a pure and loving soul. He is beautiful!

I, too, got a puppy at a most inopportune time, but he has been my closest companion and best friend for the past 11 years.

I know your life will be enriched by Dodger...enjoy him to your hearts content and congratulations on your new best friend...he will love you and ask for nothing in return except that you love him back...such a great day for you!

I remember you hashing this over in your mind a while back...to get a dog or not..seems like God knew the right time and now look how much happiness you're going to get, and how much love that beautiful dog will receive! Have fun and congrats!

He is a beauty. Great name, too. I'm so happy you've got this giant gob of love in your life. Wish we lived closer so my Golden Toby could show him the ropes and the water.

Oh, sweet pets can make such a difference in your life! The unconditional love, even when you're abominably cranky, just can't be beat.

Been catching up on your blog, as I've been on hiatus for some time. Good to "see" you, Bernie.

He is a beauty, and has a great smile, Bernie.

I don't know what I would do without the love of my my dogs. Maddie is eleven and she's having health problems. She is so full of grace and love.

I'm praying for you and your husband.
